Beach Glass
In Northern New-Brunswick, beachcombing along the shorelines is a very popular activity for locals as well as tourists. Taking in the beauty of the age old softly rounded Appalachian Mountains, the Gaspe Coast and the opening sea of, the Bay, makes this nature walk soothing to one’s spirit. Treasures of the Tides are an added bonus; unusually carved driftwood, seashells, agates and beach glass. Since childhood, beachcombing has been one of my regular summer adventures both with my parents and friends. Glistening in the sun or wetted by the waves, pieces of cobalt blue and moss green sea glass invites me to bend low and gather the “Mermaid Tears”. The tides, the previous days weather with its easterly winds will determine how fruitful my search and collection of these sea jewels will be.
Mystically referred to as “Mermaid Tears”, authentic Sea glass is the process of transforming broken glass from sharp angular shards into beautifully frosted jewels. As you stroll along a Bay side or ocean shore, you will find hidden amidst sand and shells, bits and pieces of sea glass which have been polished smooth and with edges rounded-off over the years of the shattering rolling tidal process. Interestingly enough, these Tidal Treasures are found only along those seashores, which harbor the right conditions for the ocean’s natural tumbling process. Since there is virtually no chance that any two pieces will be identical, each “Mermaid Tears” is completely unique. In fact, one hits the jackpot, but to find two pieces that are just similar enough to make a pair of earrings. Carried over and heard through the roar of the foaming billows, this sea glass style jewelry and giftware is crafted by my hand and from my own original designs.
We use only genuine beach glass. No imitations here.
